This is a transcribed version of a news coverage conducted with the Hong Kong Economic Journal  on May 26, 2025. Our founder, Karl Chan, was invited to share Sourcy's success story during the US trade and tariff war.

AI Sourcing Platform Seizes Trade War Opportunity

With the ongoing US-China trade tensions, companies must not only shift their supply chains but also reduce risks like cost, shipping time, and tariffs. A new AI-powered cross-border sourcing platform, Sourcy, emerged to address this need.

By using AI data analysis to automate and generate supply chains, Sourcy helps global brands and e-commerce sellers to efficiently identify hot-selling products and match suitable suppliers. Our founder, Karl Chan, said during the interview:

“From the US-China trade war to the pandemic and inflation, sourcing stability has become a critical challenge for businesses. In a short time, we’ve helped many companies enter Southeast Asia markets and achieve success.”

Helping Clients Identify Hot Products & Customize Orders

Sourcy uses AI algorithms developed with City University of Hong Kong. The system improves procurement efficiency by automating product sourcing through a “prompt-to-product” model. Buyers can describe a product idea in natural language (e.g., “Bluetooth headphones under $100”), and the AI will generate product images and match them with the best suppliers.

After identifying suppliers, the system ensures product standardization, and buyers can receive quotations within 3 hours. The minimum order quantity (MOQ) can be as low as 200 units.

Tony Chan explains that the company collects trend data from Instagram and TikTok, and more recently from Xiaohongshu (RED). It gathers public user comments, purchase data, and supplier info across platforms like Lazada, Shopee, SHEIN, and others. The system also includes logistics data and consumer reviews, allowing the platform to conduct in-depth market prediction, for example, predicting the next trending color or thickness of yoga pants.

Fast Supplier Matching Across Southeast Asia

Most of Sourcy’s clients come from North America and Europe. On the supplier side, manufacturers are mainly from Southeast Asia, especially Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia. In response to trade war risks, the company received a HK$600,000 grant from the HK Tech 300 fund. Its goal is to help “global sourcing become local”.
